Forming, Fresh Breakouts, and Continuation

Once you've picked a pattern type, the next question is: how far along is this setup? These three tabs answer that — they split the matching stocks by where each one currently stands in its own pattern.

Forming

The pause is still building. Price hasn't closed above the breakout level yet, so the pattern isn't complete — these are the ones to watch, not yet act on.

Fresh Breakouts

The stock has just closed above its breakout level within the last few trading sessions and is still holding near or above it. These are the newest, most time-sensitive setups on the page.

Continuation

The stock cleared its breakout level a while ago, is still trading above it, and is still holding above its longer-term trend average. These are more established moves rather than brand-new ones.

How to Use This

Select a tab to filter the table and grid below to only that stage. The count on each tab tells you how many setups are currently in that stage, so you can gauge whether most of what's on screen is early-stage or already playing out.

Common Questions

Should I only look at Fresh Breakouts? Not necessarily — some traders prefer to watch Forming setups closely before they break out, while others prefer the confirmation a Continuation setup offers. It depends on your own approach and risk appetite.

What happens to a stock as it moves between these stages? As a stock's chart develops, it can move from Forming, to Fresh Breakout, to Continuation — or drop off the list entirely if it no longer matches the pattern. The tabs always reflect the current picture, not a fixed snapshot.
